Dead Cypress Fell
Bittersweet is often how I feel when it comes to cutting trees down. On the one hand it is physically satisfying to drop a big tree, especially when it can be safely done in one go like this, but on the other it is a sad loss of habitat from the environment.
I think the decision to remove this tree was however correct as this majestic conifer was in the grounds of a care home, in an area directly open to foot traffic so not realistically a safe place to have a dead tree.
The stump was left at 1m tall to provide a base for a bird table so that the residents and workers can continue to enjoy this trees presence in the garden. There were also talks of creating a flower bed around it to truly make a feature of it.
